How to Prepare for Your Floral Consultation

We’re here to help you get the most out of your floral consult with a list of things to have prepared beforehand.

  • Select a color palette and wedding date

Deciding on your color palette beforehand will allow your florist to narrow down what type of blooms will best fit the vision for your wedding; and setting your date assists your florist in knowing which flowers will be in season. You should know at least 3 colors that you want for your color scheme or at least 3 colors that you don’t want. This is extremely helpful for your florist because it gives them a better idea before making suggestions.

  • Have a handful of inspiration photos

Provide some pictures of florals you’re absolutely in love with (and better yet, ones you are not a fan of). Narrow down 8-10 photos that speak to the style you’re going for. This will help your florist make suggestions for your vision and budget. If you aren’t looking for a premium flower but your florist knows you like Peony’s, they can likely recommend something similar that will create the same look.

  • Use Pinterest (with caution)

There’s no better place to deep dive into floral inspiration than on Pinterest. It’s one giant vision board! It’s the perfect way to find examples of what you’re envisioning in your head to convey your overall style. Keep in mind that there is no price point for the items listed on Pinterest, so I advise you to do some research on the flowers you love and whether or not they fit within your budget.

  • Narrow down your ideal budget range

Most likely, you have no idea what to budget for your florals and that’s okay. Often, couples are wary of setting a budget prior to seeing a proposal, because they are unsure what each item costs. Select a price range you’d like to stay within by narrowing down your quantities (ex. bouquets, boutonnieres, or centerpieces) This will help greatly in determining the overall cost.

  • Decide your priorities

Be sure to determine what is a priority to you before your consultation. Is it your Bouquet? Centerpieces? Ceremony arch? This information helps your florist focus on the items that matter most to you and helps them when they need to get creative with the budget.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek clarity regarding your florals. Most florists will be happy to provide budget friendly alternatives and elaborate on concepts. We’re create beings who find so much joy in bringing a gorgeous vision to life. Don’t forget to enjoy yourself and have fun with the design process.
